WRENTHAM - Think the King Philip Regional boys' basketball team can't win unless University of Maryland-bound Jake Layman is pulling down a double-double with at least 30 points? Think again.

The Warriors had 13 different players figure in on the scoresheet, led by Sam McDonald's team-high 17 points, as they shrugged off a slow start to post their second win in as many days, an 83-51 victory over Canton.

The Bulldogs actually led this one by as many as a dozen in the first quarter (18-6), but King Philip scored the final eight points of the quarter and then broke things open by outscoring Canton 20-8 in the second stanza.

"Sam (McDonald) gave us a big lift. He had four threes in the second and third quarters, and it seemed like every one of them came when Canton was trying to make a run," said KP coach Sean McInnis. "It was good to see everyone contribute and know that we have guys who can step up."

Layman still finished with 15 points (albeit a season low), 11 rebounds and five blocks. John Mullane helped the King Philip cause with 13 points and a dozen rebounds. "You can't take anything away from Canton and their coach, they were well-prepared," added McInnis. "They focused on stopping Jake but the other guys came through."

Canton got 23 points from Joel McCabe.

King Philip (7-1) travels to play Foxboro on Tuesday evening.
