Mullane and Ainge lead KP and Wellesley to victory in D2 South Bracket

A pair of Middlesex Magic players led their respective teams to opening round victories last night in the Division 2 South bracket of the MIAA State Tournament.
John Mullane was a beast recording 17 points and 11 rebounds leading King Phillip to a 83-68 victory over Whitman-Hanson. KP will now face Hopkinton Thursday night at 7pm at Attleboro High School.
Meanwhile on the top half of the same draw, Cooper Ainge led Wellesley to a 50-43 victory over Hingham. Ainge was all over the court leading his team on defense, with his floor game, and with 20 points. Wellesley will now go on the road to face Randolph Thursday night at 7pm.
Both seniors, Mullane and Ainge, were teammates on the Middlesex Magic Junior team this past year that had tremendous success throughout the Spring and Summer of 2011. Ainge is headed to BYU to play basketball next year, and Mullane is finalizing his college plans in the weeks to come, but will be playing basketball at the college level next year as well.
If King Phillip and Wellesley can play as well as they did last night they are on a collision course to play each other in the semi-finals of the D2 South bracket. The game would be a rematch of last year's state tournament game that King Phillip won.
